| The Mid Vermont region abounds with so many fun activities for the whole family! Looking for adventure? Try rock climbing in Goshen. A more leisurely activity? Then hunting for antiques at back-road auctions and flea markets might fit the bill. Many of the area's favorite recreational activities - whether hiking, horseback riding or kayaking - are made even more enjoyable by the beautiful landscape, which, as everyone knows, turns magical every autumn during fall foliage. Here is a checklist of fun things to do in Addison County:
Hiking. Long Trail in the Green Mountain National Forest. Kingsland Bay, Button Bay, DAR State Park, and Branbury - the county's four state parks offer well-marked trails, as well as Moosalamoo Area and Mount Independence State Historic Site.
Water Sports. Flat water or whitewater? Fly fishing or water skiing? Canoeing…kayaking…swimming…even scuba diving for shipwrecks. The range is nearly endless. Or grab your binoculars and visit the bird-filled marshes of Dead Creek Wildlife Management Area. Don't forget your fishing license!
Camping. There's no better way to enjoy the region with more than 5 private campgrounds and 3 state parks that provide over 390 sites.
Horseback Riding. A particularly invigorating way to tour the Mid Vermont region is atop a horse. Trail rides and several establishments offer lessons.
Golf. Given the combination of spectacular scenery and great exercise, it's no wonder that golf is fast becoming one of Vermont's most popular sports. Addison County boosts two great courses: along the shores of Lake Champlain and on the campus of Middlebury College both open to the public. |
