There is much to see and do in all seasons here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Just driving around, you can take in the sights of mountains, lakes, covered bridges, farms and fields, stopping off here and there at a local country store, a maple museum, planetarium, a farmer’s market, or to see an artisan at work in their shop.
Springtime brings melting snow and maple syrup. Maple Sugaring season in the Northeast Kingdom typically lasts from four to six weeks, sometimes starting as early as late February and continuing into April.
Maple sugaring is a part of our heritage – the NEK is home to the world's largest maple sugar candy producer, Maple Grove Farms, as well as many smaller family-operated sugarhouses. In late March, sugarhouses throughout the region participate in the Maple Open House Weekend. It’s a great way to learn more about Maple Sugaring.
You can tour the sugarhouses and get a first-hand view (and maybe even taste!) of how authentic Vermont maple syrup is made. Visit www.vermontmaple.org to learn more and get a list of participating sugarhouses.
There’s no getting around it, Spring also brings mud, but there are plenty of indoor activities for the whole family to enjoy at any time of year.

Feel like visiting two countries at once? The Haskell Free Library and Opera House is located right on the US/Canadian border so you can literally have one foot in each country.
Of course, no trip to Vermont is complete without a trip to Cabot Creamery Visitors Center. Learn about cheese making and sample your way through the factory tour
