Over the course of 270 miles, hikers pass several opportunities to connect ever so briefly with civilization. One popular spot is found just north of the Camel's Hump summit. The trail plunges down to U.S. Route 2 in Jonesville where the Jonesville Country Store offers tasty sandwiches and a chance to replenish your pack.
In Clarendon, the trail crosses VT Route 103 within a half mile of the Whistlestop Restaurant. Hungry hikers devour delicious burgers and strawberry shortcake before heading back to the freeze dried stroganoff.
Down the trail at Stratton Mountain, the sandwiches at Partridge-in-a-Pantry Deli draws hikers in as does the all-you-can-eat buffet at Grizzlies Restaurant at the Resort.
