Harvest Time Harvest Time

Sure, the fall colors are spectacular. But to the folks who live here, fall is first and foremost about The Harvest.
At its heart, Vermont is very much an agricultural state. Crops of all kinds --from corn and barley, to mesclun and apples -- represent the livelihoods of thousands of Vermont families. And when the all-important work of bringing in the bounty is complete, it's time to celebrate.

harvest festivals occur most every weekend throughout the fallThe most common sights are the roadside vegetable stands that pop up in front yards across the state. If you can't grow your own, the next best thing is to pick up freshly picked tomatoes, corn, squash and carrots from a local grower.

On a slightly larger scale, harvest festivals occur most every weekend throughout the fall. These events serve as all-purpose celebrations of the agricultural way of life with wagon rides, pie contests, games and activities, as well as tons (literally) of great food.
