Vermont Cultural Heritage Days


Cultural Heritage Days offers a chance to explore the richness and depth of Vermont’s unique cultural heritage through a wide variety of events, attractions, and experiences from fishing and hiking, to art exhibits, music festivals, and parades. Experience the arts, agriculture, history, the humanities and our natural heritage in the beauty and tranquility for which Vermont is world famous.

Vermont Cultural Heritage Days provides a window into the vast array of traditions, old and evolving, that can be discovered during a visit to Vermont. You can take advantage of one of our convenient Travel Packages or visit the Vermont Travel Planner to design your own Vermont adventure.

Signature Events

Signature events are the four major events with a statewide focus that occur during Cultural Heritage Days.

VermontDays, June 14 – 15 (Statewide)
Hike, paddle, climb, fish or just relax in beautiful and unusual settings in any or all fifty Vermont state parks. Relive history and learn about historic contributions by Vermonters at Vermont’s state owned historic sites.  Vermont Days includes free day-use admission to state parks and historic sites on Saturday and Sunday. On Free Fishing Day, Saturday June 10, the whole family can fish without a license or learn how to fish at free clinics. Vermont History Expo, June 21-22, (Tunbridge World's Fair Grounds, Tunbridge)
Experience Vermont’s living history in this celebration that spans generations. The Vermont History Expo, presented by the Vermont Historical Society, features distinctive exhibits from the collections of 145 local historical societies, museums, and heritage attractions. It also includes music and dance performances, traditional craft and historic preservation demonstrations, quilt and antique appraisals, children’s games, heirloom animals, historical talks and book signings, a parade, a genealogy resource center, and much more. Special Events
Special events include Art Fits Vermont, a statewide community arts project, the Vermont Dairy Festival, the Vermont Quilt Festival, the LCI Father’s Day Fishing Derby, the Strolling of the Heifers, Vermont Outdoor Woman’s ‘Doe Camp’, Burlington’s Discover Jazz Festival, Roots on the River Music Festival, the Franco-American Heritage Celebration, the Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival, Ethan Allen Days, Independence Day celebrations across the state, and many more.

Ongoing Experiences
The ongoing experiences are non event-based attractions that can be experienced during Cultural Heritage Days or throughout the year.

Among the ongoing experiences are some of Vermont’s best-known treasures including the Green Mountain National Forest, the Vermont State House, Vermont state parks, Vermont historic sites and trails, as well as several art galleries, country stores, farmer’s markets and historic community theaters.

Museums across the state are offering a variety of exhibits ranging from the “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” and Joe DiMaggio Memorabilia exhibit at the Bennington Museum, to the “Power of Place: Paintings That Define the American Image” exhibit at the Cornish Colony Museum in Windsor, to the “Mary Cassatt: Friends and Family” exhibit at the Shelburne Museum
